BIRDS OF SOUTH PATAGONIA & TIERRA DEL FUEGO
South Patagonia: Puerto Natales, Torres del Paine, Punta Arenas and Tierra del Fuego

HIGHLIGHTS:
South Patagonia is the last frontier of the American continent. A land of wind, wilderness, and stunninglandscapes. During this complete and comprehensive journey, we will have the chance to spot from sea birds as the Black-browed Albatross and the Antarctic Giant Petrel, to endangered waterfowl as the Ruddy-headed Goose. Specialties as the Magellanic Plover and endemics of the southern forests as the Magellanic woodpecker, Chilean hawk, and the Austral Parakeet. The steppe is also home of great specialties as the Chocolated-vented Tyrant, Austral Canastero and the skulking and elusivePatagonian Tinamou. During our exploration of Tierra del Fuego, we will also go for the king penguinsthat returned to breed in Useless bay probably after thousands of years of absence transforming this special site in a unique spot to enjoy the view of these charismatic species.
ITINERARY
DAY 1. PUNTA ARENAS
Departure from Punta Arenas airport for a birding tour around the city of Punta Arenas and the firststeppe areas to the east of the city. We will scan all the alkaline lagoons and ponds to make the firstattempts to find the unique Magellanic Plover and other species of waterfowl and waders. We will end theday visiting the Estancia Olga Teresa for a spectacular view of several Andean Condors that use the cliffs atthe ranch as a station on feeding flights

DAY 2. TIERRA DEL FUEGO
Ferry to Tierra del Fuego to explore the last corner of the American continent and cross the legendaryMagellanic Straight. We will visit the area of Baquedano Hills and Useless Bay for the Colony of KingPenguins and different coastal and moorland areas as the Natural Monument Laguna Los Cisnes. //Breakfast and Box lunch and dinner included. Overnight in Porvenir

DAY 3 TIERRA DEL FUEGO – STEPPE OF SAN GREGORIO
Early departure from Porvenir back to the mainland crossing the steppe area of San Gregorio, a perfectspot for specialties such as Tawny-throated Dotterel, White-bridlet Finch and Patagonian Tinamou amongothers. //

DAY 4 FULL DAY BIRDING AT TORRES DEL PAINE NATIONAL PARK
A dedicated day birding in one of the most spectacular parks of the world and certainly an iconic
region of Patagonia. While we admire glaciers, snowy granite peaks and breathtaking skies we will belooking for the Magellanic Woodpecker, Torrent Duck, Spectacled Duck plus more specialties as therare and endangered Austral Rail. //
Breakfast, Box Lunch, and dinner included. Overnight in Puerto Natales or Cerro Castillo

DAY 5. SIERRA BAGUALES & TORRES DEL PAINE PARK
Early morning birding and searching of Pumas in Torres del Paine National Park . Afternoon birding at Sierra Baguales mountain range, located north-east of Torres del Paine // Breakfast, Box Lunch anddinner included. Overnight in Puerto Natales or Cerro Castillo

DAY 6. THE STEPPE & PUNTA ARENAS WETLANDS
Departure from Cerro Castillo to Punta Arenas. Along the way we will look for the last species of thesteppe and later we will scan the wetlands near Punta Arenas // Breakfast Lunch and dinner
