DÍA 01: WELCOME TO LIMA

Arrival to the city of Lima, assistance, and transfer to the hotel.

DAY 03: CUSCO AT YOUR PACE

Free day. Cusco offers many cultural, archaeological and adventure-oriented activities. Reserve the activities with anticipation. We recommend:

Vinicunca, the Rainbow Mountain. Located at 5000 m.a.s.l. in the heights of the Valley of the Vilcanota River in the mountain range of the Ausangate snowcapped mountain, this beautiful mountain has become one of the main attractions and great wonders of Cusco.

Kayak in the Huaypo Lake. One day of contact with our inner being, paddling in a kayak on the Huaypo Lake with the snowcapped mountains as the backdrop. A moment to relax and let the silence invade and renew our energy. Lunch on the lake banks.

DAY 04: INCA TRAIL: PISCACUCHO TO WAYLLABAMBA

The great adventure starts! After pickup from our hotel, we will stop by Ollantaytambo (2,792 m / 9,160 ft) to take care of the last shopping and later go to Piscacucho (2,750 m / 9,022 ft), in the Km 82 of the railroad track, to enter the network of the Inca Trail. Start with a light walk that will allow us to get acclimatized. Appreciate the beautiful snowcapped mountain Veronica and will arrive to a natural observation point from where we can see at a distance the archaeological site of Llaqtapata. Continue till our first camp in Huayllabamba (3,000 m / 9,842 ft)

DAY 05: INCA TRAIL: WAYLLABAMBA, LLULLUCHAPAMPA, WARMIWAÑUSCA, PACAYMAYO

We are approaching the most intense day of the Inca Trail, let’s make sure that we have some extra candy in our traveling bag for the extra energy. Move forward through the Valley of Huayllabamba while we observe the ecological change going from the mountain range to the high Andean plateau (puna). In Yunca Chimpa get ready for the ascent to Llulluchapampa (3,750 m / 12,303 ft). While we enjoy a refreshing snack, appreciate the Valley of Huayanay and our challenge of the day, the defiant Warmiwañusca Pass (4,200 m / 13,799 ft), also known as “Of the Dead Woman”. If we are fortunate enough, we might be able to enjoy the beautiful hummingbirds and sparrows that live in the area. Finally, descend till we reach our camp in Pacaymayo (3,600 m / 11,811 ft) to have lunch and rest after this day of challenges and spectacular views.

DAY 06:  INCA TRAIL: RUNCURACAY, SAYACMARCA, PHUYUPATAMARCA, WIÑAY WAYNA

Today awaits us the largest archaeological load of our walk, it will be the longest day but at the same time the day that will impress us most and with less difficulty. We will ascend to the Runcuracay Pass (3,860 m / 12,664 ft) where we will visit the archaeological complex that has the same name and will continue to the Inca citadel of Sayacmarca (3,580 m / 11,745 ft). After lunch, cross the Phuyupatamarca Pass (3,700 m / 12,139 ft). In the area, appreciate the Inca complex best preserved of the whole Inca Trail, its meaning in Spanish is “over the clouds”. After a refreshing rest, continue to Wiñaywayna (2,650 m / 8,694 ft), an Inca complex that will leave us astonished with its many agricultural terraces and its religious and urban centers. Here we will finish this day, camp out and have our farewell dinner.

DAY 07:  INCA TRAIL: WIÑAY WAYNA, INTI PUNKU, MACHU PICCHU, CUSCO

We are one step away from reaching our main objective. Get up at dawn to ascend thru a narrow path of stairs until we reach the Intipunku or Puerta del Sol (Sun Gate) (2,720 m / 8,923 ft) and enjoy a view of Machu Picchu (2,450 m / 8,038 ft) that will leave us breathless, we can appreciate the daybreak and photograph this Inca refuge at a distance. Descent to benefit from a guided visit to the citadel, where we will get a detailed explanation of the different areas of this Wonder of the World. Descent to the village located on the foot of the mountain. Lunch. At the appropriate time, departure by train to Cusco. Arrival and transfer to the hotel.

What should travelers know:

  • The best season to travel the Inca Trail is between May and June. During the month of February, the network of Inca trails closes for maintenance. The season from January to March is full of rain. The July to September season is the coldest.
  • The Inca Trail has a limited capacity of 500 people daily, including the support staff in camps. Each carrier is limited to carry a maximum of 20 kilos.
  • The entrance to the Inca Trail cannot be reserved, entrance to the network can be confirmed only with the purchase. To buy the ticket it is necessary to provide: full name, identity document that you will carry with you at the entrance, date of birth, and nationality.
  • The registration to the network of the Inca Trail opens in November or December of the previous year.
  • The carriers assemble and disassemble the camps, taking it to the next point each day. The camp equipment is the same throughout the trip. The tents are sanitized each day.

ITINERARY

DÍA 01: WELCOME TO LIMA

Arrival to the city of Lima, assistance, and transfer to the hotel.

DAY 02: CHACHAPOYAS, CITY OF THE CLOUDS

Transfer to the airport. Departure to Chachapoyas. Arrival, assistance and transfer to the hotel in the village of Cocachimba, one hour away.

On the way we will visit the city, that was originally founded by the Spanish conquerors and named San Juan de la Frontera. Short walk from the Plaza Burgos to one of the main streets in the city towards the Plaza de Armas of Chachapoyas. We will observe a few colonial houses with traditional balconies. Notice the Municipal Palace and the austere Cathedral of Chachapoyas.

DAY 03: GREAT WATERFALL OF GOCTA

We will start our walk towards the Waterfall of Gocta. On the way enjoy the great diversity of flora and fauna with the splendid view of the waterfall. Known locally as “La Chorrera”, the waterfall of Gocta is 771 meters high and is considered among the highest in the world. It’s the perfect habitat for toucans, monkeys, cougars and cocks of the rocks. It is located in a large forest covered by mist, and in that environment, there are twenty or so waterfalls. The area offers a beautiful combination of geography and history that creates a magical place. Return to the hotel.

DAY 04: SARCOPHAGUS OF KARAJIA AND THE CAVERNS OF QUIOCTA

In the morning departure to the village of Cruz Pata, in order to later go to the funerary site of Karajía. On the way enjoy a panoramic view of the Plaza de Armas of Luya. Cruz Pata, known as the Meseta de las Cruces (Plateau of the Crosses) is the starting point of our journey on foot or riding a horse to get to Karajia in about 30 minutes. We will admire the Sarcophagus of Karajia that belong to the pre-Inca culture of the Chachapoyas, they are made of stone, wood and clay with an anthropomorphic form, they are unique in its kind because of its colossal size (up to 2.5 meters high) and its very careful craftmanship. We will see that, despite the time lapsed, the fact that they are located on the highest part of a cliff of difficult access has preserved them in a very good condition. Return to have lunch in the city of Luya. Later visit to the Caverns of Quiocta, a capricious work of mother nature, located in the district of Lamud, province of Luya. In these Caverns seven halls have been detected with stalagmites and stalactites that have been assigned different names according to their strange forms. We will spend the night in the town of Lamud.

DAY 05: THE WALLED CITADEL OF KUELAP

In the morning departure to Kuelap, majestic architectural work of the Chachapoyas. On the way we will make a stop to enjoy a panoramic view of the archaeological site of Macro, located on the hillside of a mountain across from the river Utcubamba. Arrival at the village of Nuevo Tingo, where we will embark on a bus that will transfer us to the cable railway station (la estación del Teleférico). Dramatic ascent from the 2000 m.a.s.l. up to 3000 m.a.s.l. until we reach La Malca. From this point on we will walk 2.5 km until we reach the Citadel. Those who prefer to do so, can ascend by horse following a path. Kuelap is built on top of the Barreta Mountain, making it an impregnable place due to its colossal walls and precipices.  Its circular buildings decorated with rhomboid shape patterns is one of its main characteristics. Its complex interior architecture bears witness to its function as a well-organized population center. Together with the surrounding landscape, the natural spectacle that the place offers, is unforgettable. Descent to Nuevo Tingo. Lunch. Departure to the village of Leymebamba.

DAY 06: MAUSOLEUMS OF REVASH AND MUSEUM OF THE MUMMIES OF THE LAGOON OF THE CONDORS)

Departure to the village of San Bartolo, there we will undertake a 2 km walk towards the Mausoleums of Revash. These funeral houses, which can have up to three floors, were built on the steep cliffs, still preserve their walls painted in ocher red and cream. The mausoleums can be observed at a distance. Return to Leymebamba. Lunch. Afterwards, enter the Museum of the Mummies of the Lagoon of the Condors. A collection of orchids has been planted in its gardens with more than 100 local varieties. This museum stores a very valuable collection of quipus, ancient system of Inca control used for the accounting of the crops and animals. In the climate control warehouse are kept some of the 240 mommies found in the Lagoon of the Condors found in the heights of the area. Return to Chachapoyas.

DAY 01: WELCOME TO LIMA, CITY OF KINGS AND THE LARCO MUSEUM OF CULTURES

Arrival to the city of Lima, assistance, and transfer to the hotel.

An exclusive and intense tour of the Historical Center of Lima will take us to know and admire the architectonic relics that are part of the old Lima, which has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The Convent of Santo Domingo is the beginning of this magnificent experience. It was built during the foundation of Lima. The Universidad Mayor de San Marcos (University of San Marcos) was founded on this site, the oldest in America. Inside, the choir with the oldest stalls in the country; and the library, with 25,000 books, some printed in the XV century, has an invaluable historical value. The mortal remains of San Martín de Porres, San Juan Masías and Santa Rosa de Lima lie inside. Crossing the Plaza Mayor, the Government Palace and the Municipality, going into the Cathedral, a jewel in the history of Lima, with artworks that will make us feel closer to colonial Lima. Leaving downtown Lima and heading to the Larco Museum, where we will get a clear vision of the cultures that inhabited ancient Peru. We shall admire the gold pieces, textiles and erotic ceramics that are part of the collection which will introduce us to the cosmovision of the ancient Peru. The warehouse of this museum will be open during our visit to appreciate the expressions of art that were reflected in their ceramics.

DAY 02: CUSCO, CAPITAL OF THE EMPIRE

Arrival to the city of Cusco, assistance, and transfer to the hotel.

In the afternoon, exclusive stroll in the city that starts with a visit to the Plaza de San Cristóbal (San Cristobal Square) to enjoy a panoramic overview of the city. Afterwards, we will visit the San Pedro Market, where we will absorb the local flavors and learn more about the products of the area in this market that has it all and supplies the entire city. Later, the Qorikancha Temple will welcome us with all its splendor and magnificence, with walls that used to be covered in gold. From San Blas, the artisans’ neighborhood, we will walk down the street Hatun Rumiyoc finding in our way the palace Inca Roca, today´s Archbishops Palace, and we will have time to admire the world famous Twelve Angled Stone. We will continue to the Plaza de Armas to visit The Cathedral that houses colonial works of incredible value.

DAY 03: ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK OF SACSAYHUAMAN

In the morning, we will leave behind the crowds in order to visit Sacsayhuaman, an impressive citadel full of colossal constructions surrounded by beautiful landscape in total communion with the environment. Afterwards, we continue to the Inca adoratory of Q’enqo, with its surprising altar for sacrifices embedded in the internal part of its rocky formation. Finally, we arrive at the Puca Pucará lookout and Tambomachay, a monument of notable architectonic excellence which is considered one of the pillars of the Andean cosmovision. Free afternoon to enjoy the city.

DAY 04: INCA VILLAGE OF CHINCHERO, TERRACES OF MORAY AND THE INCA VILLAGE OF OLLANTAYTAMBO

This day we shall visit the most outstanding places in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We will depart towards the Village of Chinchero, the most typical and colorful of the Sacred Valley. This village is famous for its weaving women. Short stop in a textiles center to appreciate the old Inca techniques for the dyeing and spinning using alpaca wool. After visiting the Inca Plaza with its beautiful colonial church, we will continue towards Moray, a beautiful Inca archaeological site made up of concentric agricultural terraces that served as a lab to recreate microclimates. Lunch. Later visit to the last living village of the Incas, Ollantaytambo. Also, a visit to the Temple of the ten windows, the bath of the princess, and the Sun Temple. The postcard pictures that we will take from the heights of Ollantaytambo will close this magical day in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Lodging in the area.

DAY 05: MACHU PICCHU, THE LOST CITY

The much-awaited day to visit one of the 7 Wonders of the World. Boarding at the Ollantaytambo station. Departure in the selected train. Arrival at the Machu Picchu station. Assistance, from our staff to board the bus that will ascend up a winding road, with a spectacular view of the Urubamba River which forms a deep canyon. The Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu, will greet us with its incredible terraces, staircases, ceremonial sites and urban areas. Energy exudes from the whole place. Lunch. At the coordinated time, return by train and transfer to the hotel in Cusco. Lodging.

DAY 06: ROUTE TO THE ANDEAN ALTIPLANO

Departure on a tourist bus to the city of Puno, a beautiful landscape route accompanied by the Vilcanota River and afterwards to the plateau of Collao, the Andean altiplano. Our first stop will be at the Church of the Apostle St. Peter in Andahuaylillas better known as “La Sixtina de América” (The Sistine Chapel of America). The walls and ceiling are full of mural paintings from the 17th century. Continue to Racchi, Temple of the God Wiracocha, where the remains of the columns and walls stand out and give us an idea of the monumental size of this construction during the Inca times. Our path will reach its highest point at La Raya at 4,800 m.a.s.l., a place where there is the division of the waters of the basin of the Titicaca and the rivers that will go to the Amazonas. Lunch. Visit to the Site Museum of Pucara. This location is the cradle of the famous toritos de Pucará (Pucara little bulls). Arrival in Puno and transfer to the hotel.

DAY 07: THE TITICACA SACRED LAKE AND ITS ISLANDS

In the morning, board a motorboat to visit the Uros, a town of people that sought refuge inside Lake Titicaca, fleeing the different cultures that arrived to dominate them. This community continues building their islands following the ancient techniques and welcome us to pass on their knowledge. Its people make a living from its visitors. Continue sailing towards the Island of Taquile. The community of this island has maintained alive its traditions, clothes and way of life. It is one of the few Quechua communities in a region that is essentially Aymara, and they have kept unreachable to modernity and its possible effect on their lives. They will welcome us with their music and dances. Lunch at a community restaurant, a simple meal but very rich in nutrients. Afterwards, take a walk around the surrounding areas to appreciate the beautiful view of the Lake Titicaca. Return to the port of Puno. Transfer to the hotel.

DAY 08:  FAREWELL DAY

Transfer to the airport. Departure to Lima to connect with your return flight home.

DÍA 01: WELCOME TO LIMA

Arrival to the city of Lima, assistance, and transfer to the hotel.

DAY 02: CITY OF KINGS AND THE LARCO MUSEUM OF CULTURES

An exclusive and intense tour of the Historical Center of Lima will take us to know and admire the architectonic relics that are part of the old Lima, which has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The Convent of Santo Domingo is the beginning of this magnificent experience. It was built during the foundation of Lima. The Universidad Mayor de San Marcos (University of San Marcos) was founded on this site, the oldest in America. Inside, the choir with the oldest stalls in the country; and the library, with 25,000 books, some printed in the XV century, has an invaluable historical value. The mortal remains of San Martín de Porres, San Juan Masías and Santa Rosa de Lima lie inside. Crossing the Plaza Mayor, the Government Palace and the Municipality, going into the Cathedral, a jewel in the history of Lima, with artworks that will make us feel closer to colonial Lima. Leaving downtown Lima and heading to the Larco Museum, where we will get a clear vision of the cultures that inhabited ancient Peru. We shall admire the gold pieces, textiles and erotic ceramics that are part of the collection which will introduce us to the cosmovision of the ancient Peru. The warehouse of this museum will be open during our visit to appreciate the expressions of art that were reflected in their ceramics.  Free afternoon.

DAY 03: PAMPAS DE NASCA ENIGMAS

Departure by bus going to the Paracas bay. Arrival and transfer to the Pisco airport to fly over the enigmatic Nasca lines, huge drawings that can only be appreciated from the air and represent a variety of insects and animals, such as the monkey, the hummingbird, the condor or the spider, it is believed to be an astronomy calendar designed by the ancient local people of the desert. Return to Ica. Transfer to the hotel. Free rest of the day to enjoy the hotel facilities and surrounding areas.

DAY 04: PARACAS NATIONAL RESERVE

Early in the morning we will make a marine excursion in motorboat to the Ballestas Islands. Along the way we will appreciate the “Candelabro”, a drawing carved on a sand hill facing the Pampa de Nasca. In the islands, we will watch Humboldt penguins and seals, besides migratory birds that live there. In the afternoon, departure by bus to Lima. Arrival and transfer to the hotel.

DAY 05: AREQUIPA, THE WHITE CITY

Transfer to the airport. Departure to Arequipa. Arrival, assistance and transfer to the hotel.

In the afternoon, the “White City” opens its doors to us in a tour that starts in the beautiful colonial neighborhood of San Lázaro, the place where Arequipa was founded; from here we will walk thru its colorful streets adorned with geraniums and later we will go to the observation point of Carmen Alto, to enjoy a beautiful view of agricultural terraces and from there we will be able to observe the three volcanos towering over the city: Misti, Chachani and Picchu -Picchu. We continue towards the colonial district of Yanahuara, famous for its church built in the Andalusian style and its observation point, erected with a beautiful architecture and surrounded with arches made of ashlar. Later, we visit the Santa Catalina Monastery, impressive religious monument that was closed for nearly 400 years; with narrow streets, squares and gardens that remind us of the old neighborhoods of Sevilla or Granada. Next, we head towards the Plaza de Armas, from there we will be able to watch the Cathedral and the arches surrounding the plaza, and finally visit the Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús; established by the Jesuits in the XVII century, note its cloisters and the famous Dome of San Ignacio.

DAY 06: THE VOLCANOS ROUTE, PAMPA CAÑAHUAS AND CHIVAY

Outing in an adventure by land towards the spectacular Colca Valley. We take the route of the volcanos, going up by the side of the Chachani volcano, and having a formidable view of the Misti and the Picchu volcanos. Our path will go across the vicuna reserve of Pampa Cañahuas, high Andean habitat where the vicunas live and are protected. The highest point of our trajectory will reach 4,900 m.a.s.l. in the pass of Patapampa, from there we can appreciate the active volcano Sabancaya. Descent to the Colca Valley. Arrival and lodging. Lunch at the hotel. Free time to rest or to enjoy a bath in the thermal waters in the area.

DAY 07: COLCA CANYON, OBSERVATION POINT OF THE CRUZ DEL CÓNDOR AND ROUTE TO PUNO

At dawn, we head towards the observation point of the Cruz del Cóndor. We will be observing the imposing flight of the condors, huge Andean birds that are the symbol of the Andean countries. The view lets us appreciate the great dimension of the canyon, considered one of the world’s deepest canyons. We will visit the towns of Maca and Yanque that still preserve its colonial churches. Lunch in a restaurant in the area. In the afternoon, departure by bus in a 6 hour and a half trip to the city of Puno. Arrival, assistance, and transfer to the hotel.

DAY 08: THE TITICACA SACRED LAKE AND ITS ISLANDS

In the morning, board a motorboat to visit the Uros, a town of people that sought refuge inside Lake Titicaca, fleeing the different cultures that arrived to dominate them. This community continues building their islands following the ancient techniques and welcome us to pass on their knowledge. Its people make a living from its visitors. Continue sailing towards the Island of Taquile. The community of this island has maintained alive its traditions, clothes and way of life. It is one of the few Quechua communities in a region that is essentially Aymara, and they have kept unreachable to modernity and its possible effect on their lives. They will welcome us with their music and dances. Lunch at a community restaurant, a simple meal but very rich in nutrients. Afterwards, take a walk around the surrounding areas to appreciate the beautiful view of the Lake Titicaca. Return to the port of Puno. Transfer to the hotel.

 

 

DAY 09: ROUTE OF THE ALTIPLANO

We depart in a tour bus to the city of Cusco. Our first stop will be the Museo de Lítico de Pucará (Pucara lithic museum), place that preserves the remains of the Pucará culture with pieces that will surprise us such as monoliths, stelas and sculptures with animal shapes. This town is also famous for the toritos de Pucará (Pucara little bulls), beautiful multicolored handicrafts that symbolize protection, happiness and fertility. Our next stop will be in the highest point at 4,335 m.a.s.l. in La Raya, geographic division of the basin of the water from the Titicaca Lake and from the Vilcanota river that will go to the Amazonas River basin. Lunch. We continue towards the town of Racchi, location of the temple of the god Wiracocha, the stone base of the huge columns and walls stand out and give us an idea of how majestic this small palace was. As our last stop, we visit the beautiful church of San Pedro Apóstol de Andahuaylillas, known as the “Sixtina de América” (The Sistine Chapel of America) for the paintings that adorn its ceilings and walls. Arrival to Cusco. Transfer to the hotel.

DÍA 10: CUSCO, CAPITAL OF THE EMPIRE AND THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK OF SACSAYHUAMAN

In the morning, we will leave behind the crowds in order to visit Sacsayhuaman, an impressive citadel full of colossal constructions surrounded by beautiful landscape in total communion with the environment. Afterwards, we continue to the Inca adoratory of Q’enqo, with its surprising altar for sacrifices embedded in the internal part of its rocky formation. Finally, we arrive at the Puca Pucará lookout and Tambomachay, a monument of notable architectonic excellence which is considered one of the pillars of the Andean cosmovision.

In the afternoon, exclusive stroll in the city that starts with a visit to the Plaza de San Cristóbal (San Cristobal Square) to enjoy a panoramic overview of the city. Afterwards, we will visit the San Pedro Market, where we will absorb the local flavors and learn more about the products of the area in this market that has it all and supplies the entire city. Later, the Qorikancha Temple will welcome us with all its splendor and magnificence, with walls that used to be covered in gold. From San Blas, the artisans’ neighborhood, we will walk down the street Hatun Rumiyoc finding in our way the palace Inca Roca, today´s Archbishops Palace, and we will have time to admire the world famous Twelve Angled Stone. We will continue to the Plaza de Armas to visit The Cathedral that houses colonial works of incredible value.

DAY 11: SACRED VALLEY: INCA AND COLONIAL PISAC, INKARIY MUSEUM AND YUCAY LIVE CULTURE CENTER

The Sacred Valley of the Incas receives us in this day. Our first stop will be at the Inca village of Pisac, one of the most beautiful archaeological sites of the Sacred Valley. From the top of the mountain there is a great view of the colonial village of Pisac. Walk through the colonial village. Time for shopping at the artisan workshops. Later, tour of the Inkariy Museum to visit the different halls with exhibits of representations of the pre-Hispanic cultures of ancient Peru. Lunch. Visit to the Yucay Live Culture Center, tourist complex where the local settlers will show us their techniques of weaving and dying of traditional textiles, making of the adobes, preparation of the traditional chicha, a drink made of corn, and a close encounter with the Andean camels: llamas and alpacas. Overnight stay in the area.

DAY 12: SACRED VALLEY: MORAY TERRACES, MARAS SALT MINES AND OLLANTAYTAMBO LIVING INCA VILLAGE

This day will take us to find marvelous places in this region of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The Inca Terraces of Moray, a lab that was looking to re-create 20 different microclimates and secure the agricultural production of the empire. Continue towards the Village of Maras, tour of the famous and ancient salt mines, which still are exploited since immemorial times. The contrast between the white wells and the clayey land makes this landscape into a place not to be missed for taking pictures. Lunch. In the afternoon, tour of the streets, plazas and terraces of the last Inca living village of Ollantaytambo. Enter the archaeological site that dominates the village, where we will see the technique that the Incas used to work on the stones in the Sun temple that was left half built. At the proper time, embark from the village train station to arrive at the town of Machu Picchu, located at the foot of the mountain. Overnight stay in the area.

DAY 13: MACHU PICCHU, THE LOST CITY

The much-awaited day to visit one of the 7 Wonders of the World. Boarding at the Ollantaytambo station. Departure in the selected train. Arrival at the Machu Picchu station. Assistance, from our staff to board the bus that will ascend up a winding road, with a spectacular view of the Urubamba River which forms a deep canyon. The Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu, will greet us with its incredible terraces, staircases, ceremonial sites and urban areas. Energy exudes from the whole place. Lunch. At the coordinated time, return by train and transfer to the hotel in Cusco. Lodging.

DAY 14: CUSCO AT YOUR PACE

Free day. Cusco offers many cultural, archaeological and adventure-oriented activities. Reserve the activities with anticipation. We recommend:

Vinicunca, the Rainbow Mountain. Located at 5000 m.a.s.l. in the heights of the Valley of the Vilcanota River in the mountain range of the Ausangate snowcapped mountain, this beautiful mountain has become one of the main attractions and great wonders of Cusco.

Kayak in the Huaypo Lake. One day of contact with our inner being, paddling in a kayak on the Huaypo Lake with the snowcapped mountains as the backdrop. A moment to relax and let the silence invade and renew our energy. Lunch on the lake banks.

DAY 04: INCA VILLAGE OF CHINCHERO, TERRACES OF MORAY AND THE INCA VILLAGE OF OLLANTAYTAMBO

This day we shall visit the most outstanding places in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We will depart towards the Village of Chinchero, the most typical and colorful of the Sacred Valley. This village is famous for its weaving women. Short stop in a textiles center to appreciate the old Inca techniques for the dyeing and spinning using alpaca wool. After visiting the Inca Plaza with its beautiful colonial church, we will continue towards Moray, a beautiful Inca archaeological site made up of concentric agricultural terraces that served as a lab to recreate microclimates. Lunch. Later visit to the last living village of the Incas, Ollantaytambo. Also, a visit to the Temple of the ten windows, the bath of the princess, and the Sun Temple. The postcard pictures that we will take from the heights of Ollantaytambo will close this magical day in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Lodging in the area.

DAY 05: MACHU PICCHU, THE LOST CITY

DAY 06: TAMPOPATA NATIONAL RESERVE

Transfer to the airport. Departure to Puerto Maldonado. Arrival, reception by a naturalist guide and transfer to the boarding dock. Departure in a motorboat sailing by the Tambopata River towards the hostel in the reserve. Along the way you will see the changes in vegetation, from colonized and deforested areas to the virgin forest. Upon arriving, welcome by the hostel staff with a local fruit juice. In the afternoon, a walk through the paths around the hostel to observe the flora and fauna such as the lion monkeys and the brown capuchin monkey or “monkey Martín”; besides the butterflies and many bird species. After dinner, will take place a night walk, where we can encounter nocturnal animals and insects, which can be located by the sparkle in their eyes when using flashlights on them. Lodgings at the hostel.

DAY 07: TAMPOPATA NATIONAL RESERVE

Very early in the morning, we leave for a tour of the surroundings of the hostel to watch some birds. Breakfast. Then we board a motorboat that will take us to a trail from where we start a hike and exploration, followed by an outing on a lake in our paddle canoes. In the lake we find abundant aquatic life, families of giant otters or river wolves that live in the lake and can be seen often. There is an abundance of birds, especially the tabby herons, white herons, tuqui, shanshos, and many others. Lunch. During the afternoon we will explore the nearby hostel trails. As night falls, you and your guide will go out looking for caimans and other nocturnal animals in the motorized canoe. Dinner. Lodging at the hostel.

DÍA 08:  FAREWELL DAY

Transfer to the airport to take your flight to Lima and connect with your international flight to your home.

Ascent to the Sacsayhuaman Archaeological Park and start of the journey visiting the fortress of the same name, a beautiful place that radiates peace and tranquility, we will also admire the huge rocks of up to 4 meters high, that were used in its construction. Continue to Q’enqo, antique temple of the Cougar where we can appreciate an altar for sacrifices in the inner part of a huge rock and then to Tambomachay, sacred fountains of life and health. On the way, enjoy a panoramic view of Puca Pucará, a watchtower that guarded the entrance to the city. Later, tour of the Temple of the Sun Qorikancha, over which the Santo Domingo Convent was built, the legend says that this Temple was completely gold plated, which amazed the conquerors when they first arrived. To end our journey, become familiar with the Plaza de Armas (Main Square) and enter the Cathedral, which amasses invaluable colonial art works and paintings, as for example the Cross that arrived with the first conquerors.

DAY 02: INCA VILLAGE OF CHINCHERO, TERRACES OF MORAY AND THE INCA VILLAGE OF OLLANTAYTAMBO

This day we shall visit the most outstanding places in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We will depart towards the Village of Chinchero, the most typical and colorful of the Sacred Valley. This village is famous for its weaving women. Short stop in a textiles center to appreciate the old Inca techniques for the dyeing and spinning using alpaca wool. After visiting the Inca Plaza with its beautiful colonial church, we will continue towards Moray, a beautiful Inca archaeological site made up of concentric agricultural terraces that served as a lab to recreate microclimates. Lunch. Later visit to the last living village of the Incas, Ollantaytambo. Also, a visit to the Temple of the ten windows, the bath of the princess, and the Sun Temple. The postcard pictures that we will take from the heights of Ollantaytambo will close this magical day in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Lodging in the area.

DAY 03: MACHU PICCHU, THE LOST CITY

The much-awaited day to visit one of the 7 Wonders of the World. Boarding at the Ollantaytambo station. Departure in the selected train. Arrival at the Machu Picchu station. Assistance, from our staff to board the bus that will ascend a winding road, with a spectacular view of the Urubamba River which forms a deep canyon. The Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu, will greet us with its incredible terraces, staircases, ceremonial sites and urban areas. Energy exudes from the whole place. Lunch. At the coordinated time, return by train and transfer to the hotel in Cusco. Lodging.

DAY 04: VINICUNCA, THE RAINBOW MOUNTAIN.

Embark on a great adventure when going to the Rainbow Mountain, Vinicunca. Very early in the morning, departure by van along Valle Sur till we arrive at the village of Cusipata. Breakfast. Afterwards start of the ascent through a community dirt road till we arrive at 4,800 m.a.s.l. Start of our hike along a path of 4 km observing far away the snowcapped mountain range of Ausangate. Our guide will come with us and teach us how to walk properly in altitude. The chain of mountains striped with colors will appear little by little, until we reach the observation point at 5000 m.a.s.l. Its geological formations will reveal all its great splendor. Vinicunca is one of the great attractions that you should not miss in your trip to Peru. Free time for taking pictures. Later we will descend by the same path in order to board our vehicle and descend to Cusipata. Lunch. Return to Cusco.

DAY 05: THE LAST INCA BRIDGE, Q’ESWACHACA.

In the morning, we will be going to the district of Quehue, Canas province, over the Apurimac River. Along the way we will go across the area of the four lakes and Andean villages. Get to know Q’eswachaka, the last Inca bridge, a fascinating experience. This suspension bridge that hangs over the Apurímac River is unique in its type, handmade and renewed every single year through a ritual that lasts four days carried out by local communities. We will now have the opportunity to cross this impressive Inca construction of 28 meters in length. Following the steps of the Inca army. Return to the hostel. Lunch. Return to Cusco.

Transfer to the airport. Departure to Lima to connect with your return flight home.

DAY 03: CUSCO, CACHORA, APURÍMAC RIVER

Departure from Cusco to head north through the highway that takes us to the city of Abancay. We leave the city behind and go through Antapampa, with incredible views of the snow covered Salkantay and Humantay.  As we move away from this area of high prairies, Pitusiray, Chicón and Verónica appear on the horizon.  Once we start descending towards Limatambo, visit to the archaeological site of Tarawasi.  The road continues until we reach the Apurímac River, where we will cross its impressive narrow gorge.  Past the village of Curawasi, appreciate the Sayhuite monolith, it is believed to represent the Inca Empire. A small parallel path leads us to the small village of Cachora, where we will start today´s walk.  Carrying our backpacks for the day, we´ll walk by the edge of the Capuliyoc mountain, from there we will see the Apurímac canyon for the first time and the road ahead.  We start our descent and will camp near the river at 2450 meters above sea level.

Approximate time: 4-5 hrs.

DAY 04: APURÍMAC RIVER, CHOQUEQUIRAO

At the beginning of the day go through a pedestrian bridge over the river.  From here walk uphill for half a day until we reach Marampampa, a small meadow where we will have lunch.  As we go uphill on a steep path, we can appreciate the whole canyon area, its vegetation and the surrounding environment.  The afternoon walk will not be as steep as we approach the valley that holds the Choquequirao complex. We will camp in a flat area and the following day will get ready to explore the desolate remains of the Incas and the clouds forest surrounding us.

Approximate time: 7-8 hrs.

DAY 05: CHOQUEQUIRAO, MARAMPAMPA

Throughout all morning visit to the central complex and some of the nearby constructions on the Hill looking at the canyon, while moving towards the terraces.  Will have lunch and in the afternoon will go down towards Marampampa where we will camp.

DÍA 06: MARAMPAMPA, COCAMASANA

We begin our descent towards the river and will have lunch in the deepest part of the canyon.  From this point we will start going uphill towards Cachora; along the way we will find our next camping site, a small place called Cocamasana, that offers spectacular views of the canyon.

Distance: 6 km / 3,73 mi

Approximate time: 6-7 hrs.

DAY 07: COCAMASANA, CACHORA, CUSCO

One last section going uphill towards Capuliyoc, from where the road is relatively flat, will take us to Cachora.  Waiting there is a vehicle that will take us back to Cusco, where we will arrive at night, taking the same route as the one at the beginning of the trip.  (Distance: 4 kms; duration of the walk: 3-4 hours). From Cachora to Cusco: 4 hours by car.

DAY 01: WELCOME TO LIMA, CITY OF KINGS, AND THE LARCO MUSEUM OF CULTURES

Arrival to the city of Lima, assistance, and transfer to the hotel.

An exclusive and intense tour of the Historical Center of Lima will take us to know and admire the architectonic relics that are part of the old Lima, which has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The Convent of Santo Domingo is the beginning of this magnificent experience. It was built during the foundation of Lima. The Universidad Mayor de San Marcos (University of San Marcos) was founded on this site, the oldest in America. Inside, the choir with the oldest stalls in the country; and the library, with 25,000 books, some printed in the XV century, has an invaluable historical value. The mortal remains of San Martín de Porres, San Juan Masías and Santa Rosa de Lima lie inside. Crossing the Plaza Mayor, the Government Palace, and the Municipality, going into the Cathedral, a jewel in the history of Lima, with artworks that will make us feel closer to colonial Lima. Leaving downtown Lima and heading to the Larco Museum, where we will get a clear vision of the cultures that inhabited ancient Peru. We shall admire the gold pieces, textiles and erotic ceramics that are part of the collection which will introduce us to the cosmovision of the ancient Peru. The warehouse of this museum will be open during our visit to appreciate the expressions of art that were reflected in their ceramics.

DAY 02: CUSCO, CAPITAL OF THE EMPIRE

Arrival to the city of Cusco, assistance, and transfer to the hotel.

In the afternoon, exclusive stroll in the city that starts with a visit to the Plaza de San Cristóbal (San Cristobal Square) to enjoy a panoramic overview of the city. Afterwards, we will visit the San Pedro Market, where we will absorb the local flavors and learn more about the products of the area in this market that has it all and supplies the entire city. Later, the Qorikancha Temple will welcome us with all its splendor and magnificence, with walls that used to be covered in gold. From San Blas, the artisans’ neighborhood, we will walk down the street Hatun Rumiyoc finding in our way the palace Inca Roca, today´s Archbishops Palace, and we will have time to admire the world famous Twelve Angled Stone. We will continue to the Plaza de Armas to visit The Cathedral that houses colonial works of incredible value.

From the station at Urubamba, we embark on a special train for one of the most spectacular trips in the world on board the luxury train Hiram Bingham. The experience inside the train is totally first-class. Its incredible classical style is in very good company with its particular configuration of a dining-room type train, for the enjoyment of the exquisite delights that the chefs will prepare for us on board. The road is imposing. Following the course of the Urubamba River going deep into the canyon until we finally get to the village. From there we will travel in minibuses that will ascend towards the sacred citadel of the Incas: Machu Picchu. In this incredible archaeological monument, we will be touched by its indescribable magic and energy. Walking over terraces, passageways, temples, we will find the solar clock or Intihuatana, besides other sacred places, all of this in the midst of a special atmosphere and with the assistance, of an experienced guide. After a “tea-time” in the Sanctuary Lodge, we descend to return to Cusco cheered up by the entertainment on board and a sophisticated gourmet dinner. Arrival and transfer to the hotel.

DAY 05: ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK OF SACSAYHUAMAN

In the morning, we will leave behind the crowds in order to visit Sacsayhuaman, an impressive citadel full of colossal constructions surrounded by beautiful landscape in total communion with the environment. Afterwards, we continue to the Inca adoratory of Q’enqo, with its surprising altar for sacrifices embedded in the internal part of its rocky formation. Finally, we arrive at the Puca Pucará lookout and Tambomachay, a monument of notable architectonic excellence which is considered one of the pillars of the Andean cosmovision. Free afternoon to enjoy the city.

DAY 02: CLIMB VIA FERRATA (IRON PATH) AND ZIP LINE IN THE SACRED VALLEY

In the rock walls of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, the “via ferrata” (iron path) is an adventure designed to live an adrenaline-filled experience amongst the majestic views with all the security measures needed for those who wish to climb without previous experience. Climb a rock wall of a height of 300 m in the most secure way, thanks to a metal staircase anchored in the rocks. The descent is dramatic, flying in between the mountains in a fun and secure way through the 6 lines of steel cables of the zip line or canopy. 2000 meters of cables will inject us the adrenaline that will turn this adventure into an unforgettable experience.

DAY 03: CUSCO, MOLLEPATA, SORAYPAMPA, SALKANTAY PAMPA, COLLPAPAMPA

Departure to the town of Soraypampa. Along the road go through the Limatambo district (2,100 m/ 6,888 ft), and the Mollepata district (2,800 m/ 9,184 ft). Arrival to Soraypampa (3,900 m/ 12,795 ft), where we find our mule drivers and horses that will come with us throughout the journey. Start the hike towards the base of the Salkantay going on a road uphill towards the “Salkantay Pass” (4,600 m / 15,088 ft). Reach Salkantaypampa (4,150 m / 13,615 ft), from there we will observe the majestic snow covered Salkantay (6,271 m./20,569 ft). Will continue the uphill hike going through Soyrococha (4,480 m / 14,698 ft) until we arrive at the pass where we will celebrate. Time to admire this beautiful glacial. We go downhill until we reach Huayracmachay (3,850 m / 12,631 ft). Lunch in this place. We continue hiking until we arrive to Collpapampa, (2,890 m / 9,482 ft). Camp. Dinner.

Distance traveled: 22 kilometers/ 13.7 miles

Approximate time of the hike: 9 – 10 hours.

DAY 04: COLLPAPAMPA, LA PLAYA, LUCMABAMBA

This day we will wake up in a place with milder weather. After breakfast we start walking until we arrive to Playa Sahuayaco (2,200 m / 7,217 ft). During this trip, enter the Collpapampa valley, located high in the tropical cloud forest, there we see waterfalls, fruit trees, orchids and a variety of wildlife. Habitat of the national bird of Perú, the “Gallito de las Rocas” (Cock of the Rocks). Will arrive at the camp in Lucmabamba (2,100 m / 6,889 ft). Along the road we see banana, coffee and avocado plantations, as well as the exuberant local flora. We enter the spectacled bear territory and will probably have the company of flocks of parrots as we descend. Dinner.

Approximate time of the hike: 6 – 7 hours.

DAY 05: LUCMABAMBA, LLACTAPATA, HYDROELECTRIC, TOWN OF MACHU PICCHU

After breakfast we start climbing towards the pass of Q’elloqasa (2,860 m /9,381 ft) from where we have an exceptional view of the Incas Lost Citadel, the legendary Machu Picchu. Will enjoy refreshments in the observation point of Llaqtapata (2,700 m / 8,858 ft), with a panoramic view of Machu Picchu and the Salkantay mountain; we take a well-deserved rest, enjoying the added value of the recently restored Inca site of Llaqtapata. We go down until we reach the river Aobamba crossing the exuberant bamboo forests and coffee orchards that lead us to the Machu Picchu hydroelectric power plant (1,870 m / 6,135 ft), where we board the train that will take us to the town of Machu Picchu (2,040 m / 6,692 ft). Time to relax.

DAY 06: TOWN OF MACHU PICCHU, WIÑAYHUAYNA, INTI PUNKU, MACHU PICCHU CITADEL

Before dawn we start walking parallel to the railway line until we reach Km 104, our starting point to the Machu Picchu citadel. We cross the Urubamba River to visit the Inca site known as Chachabamba (2,150 m / 7,052 ft), a beautiful palace with exquisite carved stone walls. We continue our hike and will be going uphill around 8 km/ 5 miles through a mountain covered in vegetation for almost 3 hours until we reach Wiñaywayna (2,650 m / 8,692 ft), the second most beautiful construction after Machu Picchu. Wiñaywayna “forever young” shows a perfect example of what the agriculture was in the time of the Incas, since along the sides of the mountains lie a great number of terraces, where the Incas, cultivated different agricultural products, including plantations of coca leaves. Lunch in the nearby area. Short break. We continue our hike going through a cloudy forest until we reach the Inti Punku or Puerta del Sol (Sun Gate) (2,700 m / 8,858 ft). Great view of the beautiful citadel of Machu Picchu. Descent to Machu Picchu. Overnight stay in the area.

DAY 07: TOWN OF MACHU PICCHU, WIÑAYHUAYNA, INTI PUNKU, MACHU PICCHU CITADEL

After breakfast, we board a bus to ascend to Machu Picchu. This short trip lasts only 30 minutes in a zigzagging road, through a mountain with jungle characteristics and impressive views. Finally, we arrive at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary (2,430 m /7,972 ft), place where our guide will take us for a tour of the most important sections of this beautiful Inca citadel. Afterwards, descent by bus and next we board the train traveling to Cusco. Transfer to your hotel.

Day 1: Krakow

Welcome to Poland!

Arrival to Krakow, Balice Airport. Transfer to the hotel and check-in.

Overnight in 5* H15 Palace hotel in Krakow. The hotel is located in the historic building of the Lubomirski Palace, which was created by combining four 16th century tenement houses and a newly built part. Day 2: Krakow – Wieliczka – Krakow

Krakow is the cultural capital of Poland with Old Town listed as UNESCO Heritage. During the tour you would see Barbican and defensive walls with Florian’s Gate, the Main Market Square with Sukiennice Cloth Hall, St Mary’s Church and Town Hall Tower. We would proceed to the Jagiellonian University, pass by Archbishop Palace (where John Paul II used to live) as well as St

Andrew’s Church and St Peter and Paul’s Church to reach the Wawel Hill.

Transfer from Krakow to Wieliczka the most beautiful and the oldest operating salt mine in the world (UNESCO Heritage). From over 700 years it was a source of Polish fortune and a physical fundament of culture. Today Wieliczka is the most willingly visited Polish tourist object with magnificent chapels, charming underground lakes and original tools and equipment. During this tour you could see a number of excavated chambers on 3 levels adorned with beautiful sculptures made of salt as well as a salt museum. Transfer back to Krakow.

Day 3: Krakow

Today you will have a unique opportunity to learn about the traditions of the Sharpshooters’ Fraternity in Krakow. An organization existing since the 14th century, initially functioning as a paramilitary organization, today it conducts mainly social activities. Every year, a shooting competition is organized, and the winner is awarded the title of the Sharpshooters’ King. His enthronement takes place at the Main Market Square in Kraków and has been a part of the Kraków Days festival celebrations for many years. Day 4: Krakow – Pszczyna – Książ – Kliczkow

Today we will see two of the largest polish residences where famous Daisy, Princess of Pless (Mary Theresa Olivia

Cornwallis-West; born in Ruthin Castle, Denbighshire, Wales) was living. Daisy and her husband Prince Hans Heinrich XV were the owners of large estates and coal mines in Silesia (now in Poland) which brought the Hochbergs enormous fortune. Transfer to Pszczyna.

Pszczyna Castle is a 13th century gothic castle, later rebuilt in a renaissance style and finally adorned from the outside in a baroque style. It was a residence of Polish Piast nobles. In 2009 it was voted as one of the “Seven Architectural Wonders of the Silesian Voivodeship” by the Silesian authorities and is often described as one of the most beautiful castle residences in Poland.

Transfer to Ksiaz.

Ksiaz is one of the largest castles in Poland. This huge and beautifully situated architectural complex is exceptional on a

European scale. Discover a place where Europe’s crowned heads met, where the von Hochberg dynasty’s aristocratic history is intertwined with the mysteries of the Second World War…

Day 5:  Kliczkow – Boleslawiec – Wroclaw

Get to know famous ceramics from Boleslawiec. We will teach you how to decorate a ceramic vessel just as the Artists in

Boleslawiec do. We provide lessons so that your work can become something really special. The workshop covers the basics of decorating with Boleslawiec stamps, painting with brushes, and the elements of composition. Then visit to the Live Museum of Pottery.

Transfer to Wroclaw.

We invite you for the cruise on the Odra River, the second biggest river in Poland. It would be a chance to admire the breathtaking panorama of the Old Town and beautiful city bridges. The most famous is the Grunwaldzki suspension bridge with a steel construction – one of the city’s symbols. During our cruise we could see a lot of monuments as: Szczytniki lock, Pressure Tower and Ostrow Tumski island – the oldest part of Wroclaw. We would also listen to the city’s history and legends told by our guide.

The sightseeing starts by the main entrance of the 13th century Cathedral of St. John the Baptist located on Ostrow Tumski island – the oldest part of Wroclaw. Walking along Odra riverbank, we ascend the “Polish Hill” offering the splendid view over the city. Nearby there is the Panorama of the Battle of Raclawice Museum presenting one of the biggest 360o panoramic battle scenes in the world, nowadays one of the nation’s symbols. The next pearl on our route is Aula Leopoldina – representative baroque hall at the Wroclaw University. Stroll around medieval cobblestone streets leads to the Market Square, one of the largest in Europe, surrounded by old tenement houses with the gothic Town Hall in the centre.
