Back to the relais, dinner and overnight

DAY 6: Gradara – Fano (B,D)

Breakfast at the relais.  A trip to Le Marche should include a visit to one of the most beautiful and famous castles in Italy. Then, you need to schedule a day exploring the historical beauties of Gradara.

You will see this lovely town even before getting there, as the beautiful medieval castle stands out among the woods and hills. Just a few steps and you will be immersed in an atmosphere of old times that recalls a 13th century tranquility. The Castle of Gradara was the first military fortress on a border land which was turned into a majestic noble residence by powerful families. Tradition in this medieval village certainly contributed to making this fortress famous as the background of the unfortunate love between Paolo and Francesca, narrated in Dante’s Divina Commedia. Anyways, what really makes the Castle of Gradara unforgettable is the architectural beauty of an extraordinarily well-preserved complex, that has retained the appearance and atmosphere of an ancient medieval settlement.

Independent lunch and in the afternoon, you will move southern towards Fano, known as the city of fortune, because of the Tempio della Fortuna around which the entire city has developed. The historic walls of Fano stretch for over half a kilometer, interspersed with cylindrical towers offering a wonderful example of Roman architecture that dates back to the period of the Emperor Augustus. You will have a walking tour of the city center, including a visit to the mysterious underground Fano, a fascinating itinerary through tunnels and galleries, taking you to really unique places. Enjoy a walk by the seaside before dinner; you can feel the long seafaring tradition of this city in the characteristic fishermen’s houses, along its beaches and in the many excellent restaurants. Your local expert tour manager will show you the Walk of Lisippo, on a fixed dock protected by the rocks, overlooking the sea.

After all these beautiful walks to discover Fano that will never cease to amaze you, it is finally time to sit at the table and try the two local specialties: Brodetto and Moretta.

The Brodetto of Fano (fish soup) is a typical dish of the Adriatic Sea cooking tradition, while Moretta is a hot drink mixed with a liquor born among sailors and fishermen in the port of Fano to get warm before going out to sea.

Return to the relais for overnight.

DAY 7: Ancona – Riviera del Conero – Loreto – Roma (B,L,D)

After a breakfast, you will board your minivan and, in the morning, you will have an excursion to Ancona and Riviera del Conero. Overlooking the sea, with one of the largest ports in Italy, Ancona is a city full of monuments and beautiful landscapes; it is also known as “City Dorica”, a name which refers to its Greek origins.

The Cathedral which dominates the city from above and from which you can enjoy a special view, the picturesque arch of Trajan and Mole Vanvitelliana on the side of the harbor, the War Memorial overlooking the sea in one of the most unique areas of the coast. Do not stop at the most famous monuments! Walking through the alleys and historical streets, you can discover hidden spots and panoramic views.

After lunch at a local winery tasting Rosso Conero, one of the best red wines of the region, you will have a panoramic tour of the Riviera del Conero: the stretch of coast on the slopes of Monte Conero, rich of beaches, bays and coves of exceptional beauty.

Last stop of the day but not the least as per importance, will be in Loreto, a beautiful hill town second only to Assisi and Rome as a place of religious pilgrimage. The town is a showcase of some of Italy’s greatest artists and architects. People come here from all over the world to visit the Basilica della Santa Casa, known for enshrining the house in which the Blessed Virgin Mary is believed by some to have lived. Pious devotees believe that the same house was flown over by Angelic beings from Jerusalem to Tersatto (Trsat in Croatia) then to Recanati before arriving at the current site.

Iguaçu River wriggles in a western direction for 600 km, picking up along its way the waters of dozens of tributaries. The river widens and flows majestically through forests before descending into the various levels of the famous Iguaçu waterfalls. They consist of 275 waterfalls that occupy an area more than 3 km wide and 80 m tall. They are wider than Victoria Falls, taller than Niagara Falls and more beautiful than both. There are neither words nor photographs that can properly describe them, you simply have to see and hear them for yourself.

Rio de Janeiro

The inhabitants of Rio de Janeiro call it the “Marvelous City.” Located on the Bay of Guanabara, Rio has a mountainous landscape that contrasts with an intensely blue sea. Here the skyscrapers, colonial buildings, and narrow streets meld in perfect harmony.

Although the city is a reflection of the social inequalities of the country, Rio de Janeiro has great style and is internationally renowned for its Christ Corcovado, Pão de Açúcar, Ipanema and Copacabana beaches, Carnivals and the warm and lively inhabitants of the city, the cariocas.

Then our guide Beto prepares the withdrawal of the honey. The seeds, wrapped with pulp, are pressed gently and little by little, until they release a liquid called cocoa honey.
We experience this delicacy described by its discoverers as “a nectar of the gods”. Afterwards, we toast and peel the seeds manually to then be beaten on the pylon and bring the cocoa mass to the wood stove. We mix it with other ingredients and mix the dough in the pot to finally get the real chocolate. Then we just have to wait for it to cool down to taste this delight. BRAZIL – GASTRONOMIC DELIGHTS AND NATURE’S BEST

AIRPORTS: BEL – CNF & PLU – CWB

DURATION: 13 Nights / 14 days

HIGHTLIGHTS:

If there is anything more enjoyable than traveling through the endlessly beautiful scenery of Brazil while also tasting some of its finest regional cuisine, we would like to know about it! Lip-smacking local specialties, traditional recipes, cooking workshops and unusual Amazon ingredients are the order of the day on this culinary tour, one which also visits a healthy portion of natural wonders, stunning landscapes, and important cultural sites; Bom apetite!

Belem

Founded by the Portuguese in the mouth of the Amazon River, Belém, in its almost 400 years of history, has had its architecture strongly influenced by European culture, getting to be known as Paris-in-América in the early twentieth century. Currently, although cosmopolitan and modern in many ways, Belém has not lost the traditional appearance of the colonial period facades of houses, palaces, and churches. Embedded in the middle of the Amazon forest, you will be captivated not only with its architectural wealth, but with its people, its culture and its gastronomy, an interesting kettle of ethnic mixtures of indigenous origin, with flavors of European cultures.

Belem Pg Travel Expeditions

Ilha de Marajó

At the estuary of the Amazon River where its waters begin to mix with the Atlantic Ocean, we find the island of Marajó with more than 50.000 km2 that will dazzle all travelers. It is possible to canoe through the mangrove swamps, observe the exuberant wildlife surrounding us or transform ourselves into Amazon cowboys. Learning to interact with nature and to leave behind nothing but footprints is the ultimate objective of this experience. You will feel comfortable and welcome at your stay in a fazenda, where you will also enjoy excellent gastronomy. Ilha de Marajó is the Amazon Pantanal, but with the difference that you will have the chance to ride a horse instead of going on a four-wheel drive.

Belo Horizonte

The capital of Minas Gerais is a metropolis with all the letters but hasn’t lost its “townish” way. Urban while bucolic, Belo Horizonte has pão-de-queijo (cheese bread), cachaça (local rum), parks and pubs, plus intense cultural programming, sophisticated shops, and starred restaurants. Framed by hills and mountains, the first planned city of the country was chosen by architect Oscar Niemeyer for his professional debut, in the 40’s. His works embellish the outline of the Pampulha Lagoon, one of the postcards of “Beagá” – as the capital is affectionately called by its residents.

Belo Horizonte PG Travel Expeditions

Tiradentes

Tiradentes is one of the most charming historic towns. On its colonial pebble stone streets, 18th century churches share the attention with preserved houses that are now home to restaurants, pousadas, antique and craft shops that light their lamps on the facade at dusk. The lovely setting that has served as a location for movies, sitcoms, and soap operas, still displays an imposing landscape with characteristic mountains of Minas Gerais. Funky, Tiradentes is every day ceasing to be a purely historical destiny to become a cultural center with events such as the Film Festival and the Culture and Gastronomy Festival.

Tiradentes PG Travel Expeditions

Ouro Preto

Declared a World Heritage Site, Ouro Preto preserves the greatest collection of Brazilian Baroque architecture. The discovery of gold in the ancient Vila Rica elevated the location to an economic center during the XVII and XVIII centuries. The fortune extracted left a legacy of mansions and churches constructed in spectacular harmony. To best discover this city’s rich heritage, you’ll need comfortable walking shoes to stroll the centuries-old, cobbled alleyways. Here we will see churches, towers, museums, and the influence of the large student population of this prominent University town.

Music and chocolate; indulgent Brazil

Music and chocolate; indulgent Brazil

AIRPORTS: GIG/SDU – IOS – SSA

DURATION: 12 nights /13 days

HIGHTLIGHTS:

Treat your senses to the abundant pleasures of Brazil; from musical tracks and Carnaval beats, to the intoxicating movements and rhythms of dance; from the heady aromas and exotic flavors of edible delights to the captivating sights of its natural wonders. Throughout this sensory journey, celebrate life and all it holds in the typical Brazilian spirit, by mixing music with chocolate on a tour to beautiful Bahia, where virgin beaches give way to lush green lands

– it’s here that the Cacao plant grows. Taste its fruit, juice and of course the seed, which is the source of one of life’s greatest indulgences: chocolate!

Rio de Janeiro

The people of Rio de Janeiro call it the “Marvelous City.” Located on the Bay of Guanabara, Rio has a mountainous landscape that contrasts with an intensely blue sea.

Serra Grande

Between the sea and the green of the shore that accompanies the entire southern coast of Bahia is Serra Grande, conserving 20km of pristine beaches that share the landscape with still remaining cocoa farms. An area composed of immense palm trees, waterfalls, and extensive beaches of warm waters, almost deserted, the small village appears offering a lot beyond its stunning gazebo. The central square is an invitation for a late afternoon chat accompanied by good tapioca. Serra Grande comes with options for fun and adventure in a region considered a Natural Heritage Site.

Taboquinhas

Taboquinhas is a small town of friendly and helpful people, place with a huge water potential with the Contas River and many of its tributaries. The place has plenty of fruits, variety of birds and butterflies, many endemic species, a variety of bromeliads and orchids, reptiles, monkeys, sloths, cats, among several other animal and plant species. The Usina waterfall is the most accessible and it dazzles with its wedding veil and other rapids. Beyond practicing rafting on the Contas River rapids, you can also go down on the zipline, go wall climbing or practice rappel.

Itacaré

Old haven of cocoa colonels who built some houses that are still standing, restored. Itacaré is growing in an orderly manner, preserving rivers, waterfalls and deserted beaches framed by hills covered in Atlantic Forest. To keep everything in its place, the city does not sacrifice its trails, only way to reach the most enchanting scenery, as Prainha and Havaizinho. The asphalt has replaced the precarious dirt road and with easy access also came the hype, the perks, and the constant movement of travelers. Kayaks, canoes, bikes, and jeeps also replace your feet in time to play sports or venture out amid spectacular scenery.

Peninsula de Marau

Located on the Costa do Dende, south of Bahia, between Morro de São Paulo and Itacaré. The Maraú Peninsula is home to several coastal ecosystems, among which we find natural pools, mangroves, reefs, beaches, and different types of forest in the Atlantic Forest with its variety of fauna and flora. It also houses waterfalls and has numerous trails to practice ecological tourism, to rest, research or just relax appreciating its wonderful landscapes. Among the most famous beaches for its beauty are Barra Grande, Cassange, Taipú de Fora and Algodões, not to mention hidden havens waiting to be discovered in every corner of the peninsula.

Barra Grande

Indescribably blue sea, strong wind, and tranquility. These are the main features of Barra Grande Beach, in the Coast of Piauí, overnight location for those coming or going to enjoy other routes in the region as the Delta do Parnaíba, Lençóis Maranhenses, Jericoacoara and even mountains and waterfalls. The city is newly discovered by kite surfers, with its soft sand, calm waters, and constant wind in a quiet village. A charm that Piauí beaches still have for being so little explored.

Salvador

The mixture of Portuguese, African and indigenous influences that we find in Salvador de Bahia translates into a unique culture where the traveler can experience this fusion in the gastronomy, festivals, religions, and lifestyle of the people of Salvador. Furthermore, history left behind a priceless legacy of buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries in the Pelourinho, the historic city center, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This lively zone permits travelers to lose themselves among the cobbled alleyways and colonial buildings while experiencing the vibrant energy of the city.
